Fairford – Jubilee Weekend 2012

Jo and the children returned to Fairford from a few days with Todd’s family just in time to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee weekend. Todd had flown back to California for work earlier in the week but we were joined on the Sunday by Jon and Jess and Lucy and James. 350-20120605a.JPG Lucy and James also stayed over until the Tuesday so it was another family weekend.

There was a lot going on in Fairford over the weekend, a formal Ball and concerts and other events in a big Marquee in the Walnut Tree Field, a 10K fun run, and a parade.

The parade had lots of floats and groups of people who processed from the Church down the High Street and along the main road and back to the Walnut Tree Field.

Alexander, Oliver and Sienna were invited to join in the street party and enjoyed the food, drink and an entertainer who walked around chatting to the children during the meal, He then put on a show on a raised stage (in fact the bed of a truck) and really got the children going. Their laughter and the way they responderd were a joy to see and hear.

The celebrations culminated in the lighting of a beacon at 10pm. The beacon was part of a chain passing the message of celebration around the country. Despite all the rain the day before, the beacon burned brightly and very quickly.
It was a great weekend.
