26 March – El Calafate

We have now made our way south through the desolate steppe lands of northern Patagonia – no people, dwellings or cars for mile upon mile. En route we stopped at Puerto Madryn, Rada Tilly, Puerto San Julian before we came to the amazing scenery of Southern Patagonia. We arrived at El Chalten to amazing snow capped mountains and glaciers – awesome. The weather was cold (-9C) on the first night but warmed up for our second night (-4C). However, we have at last discovered how to arrange our blankets, thermarests and sleeping bags so as to be as snug as a bug in a rug or a tent!.
Yesterday, we made it to El Calafate and basked in sunshine! Today we have visited the incredible Moreno Glacier. This was in the news a couple of weeks ago because a massive chunk had fallen offf. We saw lots of small bits fall off. It is a truly magnificent sight. Tomorrow we head off at 5 am for 4 nights camping in Torres del Paine and then to the bottom of the world.

Internet access has been sparse for the last week or so and frequently not working so donĀ“t be surprised if you do not hear from us for a while.

Thanks to all for the comments. Keep them coming please.

Love to all.
