27 Feb – Rio
We arrived safely in a very hot and humid Rio after a very long overnight flight via Sao Paulo.
So far we have visited Copacabana and Ipanema beaches and the statue of Christ the Redeemer. The statue was amazing and on a hill top 710m above sea level. The views were astounding.
We also went to the Sambadrome on Sunday evening for the first of the carnival processions. It started at 9pm and went on until daybreak. Unfortunately, after 3 hours the heavens opened and although we had our ´emergency ponchos`, we decided to head back to the hotel. The atmosphere was lovely and the rain did nothing to dampen the spirits of the locals and most of the young tourists!.
One more day of luxury before we board our big red lorry and start with 3 days of camping as we head south to Parati.
