June 2018 – Fairford

On the Saturday after our return from Sicily, Jenny, Mark, Bethany, Callum and Elsie came for lunch . Callum and Elsie then stayed overnight. We had a great time including visiting Buscot Lock where the children were asked if they would help operate the lock. The lock keeper was brilliant telling them what to do and explaining why, for example, one sluice was opened before the other. They also enjoyed playing with the trains and climbing in the park.

The weather270-20180609e.JPG has been really pleasant during June and we have enjoyed a couple of lovely walks.  On one day we walked the perimeter of Blenheim Palace.

The walk was very pleasant for, despite the large number of visitors close to the palace, we met very few on our walk and were able to enjoy the peace and quiet!

We also diverted into the Butterfly House and were treated to a marvellous display.

On another day we explored the Thames Path from Inglesham Church towards Kempsford. Despite living in the area for forty years plus, we had never walked this bit of the path – we came across a little inlet with two decent size motor boats moored apparently miles from anywhere as well as an active grass airfield! We were also treated to swarms of dark blue dragonflies.

The walk itself was really pleasant way to spend an afternoon with not a single other person during the whole two hours!
