6th July 2013 Lucy and James Wedding day

What a glorious weekend.  The weather was fantastic, the bride and groom looked radiant and we all had a great weekend.

589-20130705.JPGLucy’s wedding weekend started with a family meal on the Friday evening.  Everyone gathered in the garden; Jo and her children from California, Martin and Louise flew in from Singapore, Jon flew back from Norway and Mark cycled from Swindon railway station.  The rest of us had mundane or much shorter journeys.  The grandchildren ate early and then were very quiet and well behaved which allowed the adults to have a really pleasant meal together.

The 6th of July was all about Lucy and James. They were married at St Mary’s Church Fairford where Lucy had sung in the church choir and where Annie and Gerry still sing.  Jo was Lucy’s bridesmaid589-20130706a.JPG589-20130706d.JPG and made sure Lucy was ready to leave for Church on time! Gerry and Annie drove the Bride and Bridesmaid to Church in Gerry’s car.  The service was very special with the marriage vows spoken clearly and with great sincerity, wonderful singing, wonderful organ playing, a moving address from the vicar Rev Brian Atkinson and, to cap all that, a beautiful bride and handsome groom.

The reception was at the Tythe Barn in270-20130706c.JPG Tetbury some 18 miles from Fairford.   Gerry’s car was again used but this time driven by a friend.  We were all able to enjoy some cool refreshing bubbly in the gardens under brilliant sunshine.  We then moved inside the barn itself for the wedding breakfast.  The speeches were excellent both in content and delivery and were also the right length!! So everyone was ready to party and they did.  Perhaps the highlight of the party was a band made up of the groom, James Henderson, Jon Henderson and two of James (Hopkins) university band.  The group had never played together before apart from one rehearsal session but gave a performance that had the audience clammering for more.

It was some very weary children and equally weary adults that made their way back to Fairford by midnight in a minibus driven by Gerry.

Next morning, Lucy and James Hopkins hosted a BBQ at the Tythe Barn and it was great to continue the celebrations and get to know James’s family and Lucy and James’s friends better and for the grandchildren to enjoy playing some games and generally having fun..

A truly memorable weekend.

Lucy and James make a fantastic couple and we all wish them a very happy life together.
