4 – 7th March – France

We have just enjoyed some glorious weather – in France. We decided a couple of weeks ago that we should visit Montreuil-sur-Mer and stock up with some wine from the wine society and also to enjoy a couple of days walking. Our journey over went without a hitch and we managed to walk around the ramparts before enjoying supper in a small restaurant. We were disappointed because we could find no where that served moules et frites which has always been a must for us on a trip to Montreuil. Nevertheless supper was very pleasant.

There were open fields, as well as nice paths through woods with lots of snowdrops, narrow roads where our shadows were well defined (just proving it was sunny) and then past a funny but quite majestic building down a track marked private so we were unable to find out anything about it.

We walked about 18 KM in total on two separate walks. Both were similar to the previous day although slightly more hilly and taking in more little villages or hamlets. In the evening we revisited a restaurant we had eaten in on a previous visit to Montreuil and it certainly lived up to expectations.

The next morning saw us go for a short walk around part of the ramparts before setting off on our return journey arriving back at Dover to mist, rain and gloom. That just made us all the more grateful for the previous few days!
